Sample of 3 wines

1. Rapaura Springs Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2019 – $13 at First Choice. .This wine has a truly seductive aromatic overlay that adds a new dimension to the gooseberries, the grass and the tropical fruit. A terrific drink on its own! These guys are buying market share, which is to our advantage. I bought a dozen – you won’t find a better savvy this side of $25. 94 points.

2. Colinas De Lisboa Red Blend 2016 – $12 at Dan M’s. What a surprise this is! A light to medium-bodied red, a seamless blend of Castelao, Camarate, Tinta Minda and Touriga. The colour is mature, and the wine is ready to enjoy. Elegant and smooth as a baby’s bottom, good line and length, similar to a basic Bordeaux red of old, the kind the English used to call a luncheon claret in the old days. Why don’t we see more Portuguese wines down under? 92 points.

3. Bouchard Aine & Fils Rosé de France NV – $13 at Our Cellar. This is another pretty smart wine, from a big French merchant, that wowed the panel at Gourmet Traveller Wine: ‘A surprise package which really delivers. Subtle rose-hips, marshmallow and a touch of musk. Soft and gentle, with lingering flavour and a slightly creamy balance. This is a nicely crafted, delicate wine with a poised, dry finish. 93 points.’
