These are all made in small volumes by small wineries which includes most of the 1,400 wineries listed in James Halliday’s Wine Companion. Some are hand made wines by master winemakers. Take a look at 3 of them.

1. Tertini Riesling 2012 – $30 at the winery (If you join the club, you get 15% discount). Jonathon Holgate has built a great reputation for these Southern Highland Rieslings. Terrific austere style, which builds complexity as it matures.

2. Pipers Brook Estate Gewürztraminer 2013 – $22.50 at Trio Wine. A real tour de force – enough flavour here to make Alsactian winemakers weep. Held together by tight Tassie line and length. Benchmark Gewürz at a giveaway price.

3. Foxeys Hangout Red Fox Pinot Noir 2012 – $20 at Winelistaustralia. Terrific Pinot from the Mornington Peninsula, lovely combo of fruit and herbs and autumn leaves.
